Little covid project #203846251! My wee studio has no A/C, and no screen door to let in the breeze yet keep out bugs. So I made one, from scratch. And it was fun!
I kept it super simple, as I have no idea what I am doing. But I have made stretcher bars for paintings over the years, and of course frames. That experience came in handy.
1.) "It's getting hot in herre, so I'll make a screen doooor...." Measure door entrance, design a pattern, cut scrap western red cedar strips to measurements within 1/8", put together with wood glue and band clamps, paint all with primer....

2.) strengthen joinery via 90 degree angle joints aka pocket holes (such math, much wow!)

3.) Install screen inside a scrap pine sandwich. Mmmmmm sandwich....

4.) ... make perfect shade of lavender exterior paint using linseed oil, gamsol and pigments, and paint door outdoors; three thin coats will take forever to dry but this paint will last 50+ years.

5.) Install door in entry with shims and hinges. (It fit perfectly, yippee!)

6.) Garnish with old paint brush for a door handle.

I love my funky, inexpensive, real wood screen door. Thanks for looking! ![]()
