Projects continue here at my studio! Some of you may recall a while back that I had been experimenting with a newly-discovered bright blue pigment called YInMn Blue. I was fortunate enough to procure a sample of this pure pigment to make my own paints with.

(The needlepoint pillow in the background is my own creation, too. Another covid project.
It features all of our pets, and it took FOREVER...)
1. Pigment, gum arabic (soaked), filtered honey, and distilled water in my cauldron, er, mortar and pestle:

2.) I "pestle" it for a very long time, adjusting the recipe for consistency and flow. (One could also use a glass plate and a muller, which I do sometimes.)

3.) Tests perfectly on cold press paper! A lovely, granulating blue similar to cobalt blue meets ultramarine.

4.) Next I fill some empty pans with the mixture. It will dry after a time like a portable watercolour pan, but can be used immediately.

5.) Some quick tests of how YInMn Blue mixes with some of the pigments I use on a regular basis in watercolour.
